Day at home. Took out the Seats and Carpet and begin to see how much rust
is on the floor pans.
no name. My wife has christened her "Misty". I'll soon
put that thought out of her. You couldn't ask your wife to name your mistress,
now would you? I like the name Kristina, but that's my wife's name so
I'll have to think of another.(Update! Decided to name her "Natalie",
after a certain female actress. Hopefully I'll be encouraged to make sure
my car is as beautiful)
These Pics show part of the floor pan with the seats and the carpet removed.
More rust than I thought, but I suppose I better get used
to that. It won't really affect the cost much. Mostly more time to weld
and get stuff aligned and shored up again. Consider that someone drove
this car in this condition. Actually, there is more good floorpan than
I thought too.
Notice that there is rust-through in front of the rear tires and way up
in front of the drivers feet. I don't think I'll be able to find it all
until I take out the dash panel. That's OK, everything is coming out and
I'm going to give it a complete metal rebuild and paint. I've found a
sandblasting company a couple of miles down the road from where she is
parked. The price seems very reasonable for a DIY job. I'll likely strip
it down to sheet metal, bake the paint and blast with walnut shell so
that I can be sure all metal is sound, and can replace it as needed.
I doubt I'll be able to paint her this summer, but hopefully I'll get
her stripped and sealed so I can continue to do the body repair. Paint
is just too dang expensive!
